Daura Suruwal

Daura Suruwal is the traditional and national dress of Nepal, historically worn by men and symbolizing religious and cultural significance. Introduced by 19th-century Prime Minister Jang Bahadur Rana, it consists of the Daura (upper garment) and Suruwal (trousers). The Daura features eight strings, representing the Astamatrika goddesses, and a closed neck symbolizing Lord Shiva's snake. Though once mandatory for officials and commonly worn, especially by Brahmins, its use has declined over time. However, it remains popular among the elderly and has gained growing interest in international markets.
